Where AI genuinely helps a smaller team today, and the questions to ask before spending money.
Most useful business AI is unglamorous. It reads documents, drafts replies, finds answers in your own files and takes repetitive steps off people. That is where the return is.
Support emails, invoices, contracts and forms are all text. If a person spends hours a week sorting, summarising or re-typing it, an AI step can often help.
An assistant that answers from your policies, manuals and past tickets is far more useful than a general chatbot. It needs good retrieval and access rules, not a custom model.
For anything with money or legal consequences, let AI prepare and a person approve. Record what happened so you can review it later.
Pick one number, such as minutes per ticket or documents processed per day, and compare before and after.
Understand which provider processes your data, where, and what they retain. Choose settings that match your obligations.
Start with one narrow workflow, prove the value, then expand. That approach is cheaper and safer than a large AI programme.
